Impressions from Senegal '24 – Part II

Chili field update 🌶️

It's been a year since we had the crop failure in the field. This year everything looks better, but we are not quite there yet. Nevertheless, we want to give you updates and insights from the chili field.

During harvest season in the summer months, farmers go into the fields and pick ripe chili peppers from the bushes. At the beginning of the harvest season, the plants bear only a few fruits, but during the "peak," many fruits can be found on the bushes. To ensure that not all chili plants reach their peak at the same time, they are cultivated at different intervals.

Good News: Our chili mash in Senegal (which will be the base of our sauces) is almost finished!

The green and red mash is already bottled, and as soon as the yellow chilies are ripe, they will be processed by the female farmers. Then we are (finally) ready for import!

🤝 A unifying mission

With our Senegalese partner 'Ferme Hallier', we deliberately chose a Fairtrade and organic-certified farm to ensure that our chillies are grown under ethical and environmentally friendly conditions.

On site, we constantly notice that, as a purpose-driven company, we have a very special relationship with our partners along the supply chain, one that goes far (!) beyond mere buying and selling.

The women farmers in Sipane also tried our sauces and loved them! For some, the Habanero & Mango Sauce was a bit too spicy, but everyone was an absolute fan of our social-spicy mission.

The time on the farm was, as always, very special and once again proved that we are doing everything right with our Helping with Heat mission.
