The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas massively harm our environment and contribute to global warming. But the good news is: there's a solution that's already tangible today: green electricity.

What is green electricity?

Green electricity is generated 100% from renewable energy sources. Unlike fossil fuels, these energy sources are inexhaustible and do not harm the environment.

In Germany, sun, wind, and water provide most of the green electricity. These energy sources are not only climate-friendly but also reliable and safe. They produce no harmful emissions and thus contribute significantly to improving air quality and reducing CO₂ pollution.

Why is green electricity so important?

Electricity generation is one of the largest sources of CO₂ emissions worldwide. If we manage the transition to renewable energies like green electricity, we can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This is crucial to slow down global warming and prevent the worst effects of climate change. Furthermore, the expansion of green electricity protects our natural resources and helps to reduce dependence on finite and environmentally damaging fossil fuels.

🤝 A unifying mission

At SOCHILI, our goal is to improve access to solar energy in rural areas, thereby contributing to social and economic development. But whether in the Global South or the Global North – green electricity is an important lever for greater sustainability for our world and must be thought of globally.

Here in Germany, our partner naturstrom supplies German green electricity, which is generated exclusively from sun, wind, and water. Together, we are working on a future based on renewable energies – us in Senegal, naturstrom in Germany.
