The smarter E x SOCHILI

Every SOCHILI product sold funds one day of electricity – currently €0.51. The money goes to the Share The Power Foundation, which passes it on to partner organizations in Senegal. These organizations then commission local solar installers to connect families to the solar power grid. Each family receives one year of free electricity – plus an empowerment workshop.

Specifically, it works like this:

1) Your purchase donates: Whether in the supermarket, as a corporate gift, or in the online shop, every product sold funds one day of electricity. This currently amounts to €0.51, which goes directly to the Share The Power Foundation.

2) Collect donations: The Share The Power Foundation functions like a non-profit safe. It collects the funds, allocates them, and makes every cent digitally traceable.

3) Distribute donations: The Foundation distributes the funds to partner organizations in Senegal. Together with the partner organizations, the Foundation selects the villages and families that are to receive access to electricity.

4) Install solar power: Local solar installers are commissioned by our partner organizations and carry out the home installation – including sockets and lamps. This gives families access to solar power for the first time.

5) Empower families: Each family receives free electricity usage for one year – plus participation in an empowerment workshop. Locally, they discuss together how the new opportunities offered by solar power can be utilized.

Since our founding, with every SOCHILI product sold, one day of electricity flows to families in Senegal. Whether chili sauce, spice blend, chili oil, or T-shirt: Every product sold donates. To date, well over 100 families have gained access to electricity – made possible by your purchase from our social enterprise.

At the beginning of 2026, we founded the Share The Power Foundation, a digital endowment fund on bcause. All donations from SOCHILI go to this Foundation, which works directly with local non-profit organizations in Senegal.

The Share The Power Foundation uses the donations to collaborate with the Association Women Empowering Women Africa and the Association Pour le Développement Durable YAMALE. We have known the people behind these organizations for a long time. First and foremost, Anna Ndiaye, who has been an important part of the mission since its inception. Anna is an expert in rural electrification. She knows the villages, the families and their needs – and has a direct line to the Senegalese authority ASER, which coordinates access to electricity in remote regions.

We provide access to electricity for families who cannot afford the house installation and ongoing electricity consumption.

Specifically, it works like this:

Our partner organizations in Senegal build solar farms, thus creating the infrastructure to supply entire villages with electricity. The problem: many families in the village still cannot afford the house installation and ongoing electricity costs. In rural Senegal, every second person lives below the poverty line. This is precisely where we and our partners come in.

Families who want access to electricity register on a waiting list. Prioritization and planning of house connections are carried out in direct consultation with the people in the village and with the local partner organizations.

As soon as 365 SOCHILI products are sold, we enable a SOCHILI Good Plan. With this, we gift a family the house installation, one year of electricity consumption, and participation in the Empowerment Workshop.

"Our donations initially go to the Share The Power Foundation. The Foundation forwards them to local non-profit organizations in Senegal, including the Association Women Empowering Women Africa and the Association Pour le Développement Durable YAMALE. In the first few years, we also collaborated with Africa GreenTec and the Africa GreenTec Foundation.

The non-profit organizations coordinate the implementation and monitoring of all SOCHILI Good Plans: home installation, one year of electricity consumption, and participation in the empowerment workshop.

Yes! With the donations, we cover all costs, including the costs for house installation, light bulbs, sockets, and electricity consumption for a whole year.

After the year, the family decides whether they want to continue receiving electricity, which has been the case for all families so far.

If the family needs more time to be able to continue paying for electricity themselves, we enter into discussions with the families and jointly look for a solution. So far, however, all families have been able to raise the necessary financial means themselves, which makes us very positive.

The SOCHILI Good Plan is our innovative impact program for low-income families in Senegal. With it, we finance:

• the house installation (including sockets and lamps)
• one year of free electricity usage
• participation in an Empowerment Workshop, where families discuss how to utilize the new opportunities provided by solar power

The SOCHILI Good Plan is financed by the proceeds from our sales: the purchase of one product is equivalent to one day of electricity. Once 365 products are sold, a complete Good Plan is funded for one family.

Electricity is not a trivial matter; it is the foundation for many things: light in the evening, refrigerated food, operating electrical appliances, space for education and small businesses.

The shocking truth: Over 600 million people on the African continent have no access to electricity. In rural Senegal – where SOCHILI originated – almost every second person lives without permanent access to electricity.

Our "roots" are in Senegal because that's where our chilies grow. That's why it was clear to us: We start where our partners live and our product comes from.

Other regions in the Global South are on our impact to-do list. However, we currently see enough potential in Senegal to further expand our impact.

We work with local partners whom we know personally. We regularly visit the chili farm in Senegal and participate in almost all empowerment workshops in the villages. This way, we see with our own eyes that the electricity reaches the families.

Each product, including those within a set, provides enough electricity for one day for a family. So, three chili sauces in a set provide three days of electricity, five spices in a set provide five days of electricity, and so on.
